IIA Monthly Luncheons
Each month the IIA sponsors 5 spots for IASA members to attend a monthly luncheon. In order to attend a luncheon, you must first join the IASA by clicking on the "Join Now" option under About->Membership. For current IASA members, please contact us at iasastud@gmail.com if you are interested in attending IIA luncheons. Please refer to our calendar for more information. You may also visit the Houston IIA chapter at www.houstoniia.org for monthly luncheon information.
The monthly IIA luncheons are typically held on the first Monday of each month from 11:30 - 1:00 at the Houston Club on 811 Rusk in downtown. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize parking costs of $8 per vehicle.
What to expect
The Houston IIA chapter has approximately 200-300 people that consistently attend the monthly luncheons. Public accounting firms, energy firms, healthcare companies, universities, CPA firms, etc. are represented in the luncheon. Everyone is represented at the luncheons from the staff auditor to the Chief Audit Executive along with other internal audit related areas. Other professionals from accounting and recruiting also tend to come to the luncheons as well.
This represents a GREAT NETWORKING opportunity! Imagine being able to talk to people from different companies and gathering information about internal audit. Another major benefit is that you are talking to senior auditors and managers, which tend to have an effect on the hiring process. If you learn to talk to people and learn what they do, make sure you always ask them for contact information in order to ask them any additional questions. You never know if someone will contact you for a potential job opportunity if they see you are interested in the field.
There is FREE FOOD! Each month there is a good speaker that comes and talks to the organization about a relevant internal audit related topic. Past IIA luncheon topics include Cyber terrorism, the internal audit department from the CFO's perspective, Fraud, IFRS, White Collar Crime, Computer Forensics, etc.
